Local bank hosts holiday food drive to benefit Helping Harvest

Helping Harvest is getting a helping hand from The Bank of Greene County. The bank has generously agreed to host a food drive to benefit our food assistance program for the needy during the holiday season. Stop by the Ravena location on US Route 9W to make a donation of boxed, canned or other dry goods.

We are especially in need of canned vegetables, pasta and pasta sauces, and canned soups. Toilet paper would also be appreciated. Donations of traditional holiday favorites like stuffing would ensure people have a nice Christmas dinner.

Helping Harvest serves people living below USDA guidelines for poverty. Our customers are able to select groceries and make a small donation for purchases to support the store. Helping Harvest's goal is to fill in the gaps the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) does not cover and provide reprieve from full retail prices for additional food and other necessities.

With more than 350 families currently on its membership rolls, Helping Harvest has helped to feed more than 1,000 people in Ravena and the surrounding communities since it opened in 2010.

Keeping the store’s shelves stocked is always a challenge. People rely on us and we go through food quickly - more quickly than our few grocer connections can help us fill.

We are so grateful to The Bank of Greene County for stepping up to help us! Please let the staff and management of the bank know you appreciate their efforts on our behalf when you stop in to make your donation between now and the end of December.
