The Helping Harvest team helped to distribute 80 Thanksgiving meals to families in need the week before the holiday. The giveaways occurred as Helping Harvest was also open to serve members, making for a busy few days for the charity and its staff.

Activity kicked off on Thursday, November 21 when Helping Harvest received groceries for 20 meals thanks to the Ravena News Herald's Feed Your Mind, Feed a Family program. With support from the paper's subscribers and the business community, the Ravena News Herald gave 115 Thanksgiving meals to area charities for distribution to families in need that day.

Another 60 meals were distributed through Helping Harvest on Saturday, November 23. This time the meals were supplied by the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York as part of its initiative to distribute at least 30,000 Thanksgiving meals to people in need. Some of these meals were prepared and others were in the form of groceries so families could prepare their meal at home. We added fresh fruit compliments of Trader Joe's to each bag.

Helping Harvest volunteers also delivered meals to families lacking transportation on the 21st and 23rd.

Thanks to the Ravena News Herald and its subscribers, Carver Companies, Crossroads Ford, Nolan Energy, Shop 'N Save and TCI of NY, LLC for underwriting the Feed Your Mind, Feed a Family project on November 21.

Support from the Regional Food Bank, B.W. Property Care and Allphase Masonry and Concrete made the distribution on November 23 at Helping Harvest possible.

The Thanksgiving meals handout was a powerful reminder of what communities can accomplish when we work together. We were so proud to serve a small role in this big effort to ensure no family went without a Thanksgiving dinner.
