Helping Harvest partners with Capital Region Independent Media and Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York to provide Thanksgiving meals to families in need

Updated: Nov 7

Helping Harvest will be part of a large Capital Region movement to provide free Thanksgiving meals and groceries to families in need. This affordable grocery store, dedicated to supporting vulnerable families in the area, will distribute free holiday groceries and prepared meals on Thursday, November 21, and Saturday, November 23. This effort is made possible through collaborations with Capital Region Independent Media (CRIM) and the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York.

On November 21, Helping Harvest will receive and distribute bags full of holiday meal essentials, including a turkey, to struggling families thanks to CRIM's annual Feed Your Mind, Feed a Family Thanksgiving meal giveaway.

On November 23, as part of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York's aggressive effort to feed 30,000 families this Thanksgiving, Helping Harvest will distribute Food Bank supplied prepared meals to senior citizens and families who lack the ability to prepare a meal at home. The charity will also distribute bags full of groceries, including a turkey and other Thanksgiving meal ingredients, supplied by the Food Bank, to other families.

To further assist the area's struggling families, Helping Harvest volunteers will deliver the meals and groceries to shut-ins and others who lack transportation within a 10 mile radius of the charity.

"We're excited to partner with the Regional Food Bank and Capital Region Independent Media to ensure all families in the area have a Thanksgiving meal," said Rebecca Flach, executive director of Hope Full Life Center Inc., the parent charity of Helping Harvest. "Working together is the best way to combat food insecurity at Thanksgiving and all year long."

"We're grateful to the Food Bank and CRIM, the hundreds of supporting businesses, donors and volunteers who will pull off these amazing efforts to aid struggling families at the start of the holidays," Flach said.

To ensure this food giveaway assists as many people as possible and to plan for delivery needs, families must register in advance to receive the groceries or prepared meal through Helping Harvest. Families may register by using this online form or in person at Helping Harvest, located at 2480 US Route 9W, Faith Plaza, Ravena. Families may also call (518) 756-9091 to register.  A Helping Harvest team member will be in touch to confirm pick up or delivery date and time.

The Regional Food Bank is seeking donations and volunteers to help with its effort on November 23. Learn more and sign up to volunteer: https://regionalfoodbank.net/thanksgiving/
